At Safari West, caring for animals includes preparing for the moments when something goes wrong.
Animals can become ill, require emergency intervention, or need specialized medical care at any stage of life. When that happens, on-site facilities in place can make a critical difference—not only in outcomes but also in how quickly and safely care can be delivered.
The Veterinary Clinic campaign supports the planning and development of Safari West’s first state-of-the-art veterinary medical facility, designed specifically for a working wildlife preserve.
Why a Veterinary Clinic Matters
Safari West’s veterinary and animal care teams provide daily monitoring, preventative care, and medical treatment within our existing facility, which has served the preserve for over 30 years.
A state-of-the-art veterinary clinic allows important work to happen in a setting designed for:
- Advanced medical treatment and surgery
- Safe, controlled recovery and monitoring
- Improved biosecurity
What This Facility Will Support
The planned 4000 square veterinary clinic will bring together essential elements of care in one integrated space and allow our veterinary team to continue to provide the highest level of care to our animal residents. The new facility will include:
- A sterile surgical suite
- Expanded on-site diagnostic and laboratory capabilities
- Larger areas for medical storage
- Expanded treatment, recovery, and monitoring areas
The facility will also provide dedicated space for medical sample storage and plasma banking, strengthening Safari West’s research capacity and collaboration with partner institutions.

As Safari West transitions into nonprofit stewardship under the Safari West Zoological Society, we are focused on investing in infrastructure that supports animal care for the long term.
