A New Giraffe Calf Brings Hope and Inspiration to Safari West
Safari West is pleased to share the arrival of a new giraffe calf, the 57th giraffe born at the wildlife preserve, marking an important milestone in its ongoing commitment to wildlife care and conservation.
Born just days ago, the calf has required intensive support from Safari West’s animal care and veterinary teams. At birth, he faced several challenges, including difficulty nursing and maintaining body temperature, requiring immediate and ongoing intervention.
Thanks to round-the-clock care, there are now encouraging signs.
The calf is currently taking a bottle and gaining strength, while continuing to receive close monitoring and treatment. His condition is best described as a guarded but improving prognosis, and his progress remains closely tied to how he responds in the days ahead.
“This is a moment that reflects both the fragility and resilience of wildlife,” said Dr. Nancy Lang, Founder of Safari West. “Every life here matters deeply, and our team is fully committed to giving this calf the care and support he needs.”
This birth also highlights the broader challenges giraffes face in the wild. With populations declining due to habitat loss, poaching, and human-wildlife conflict, the need for conservation, education, and responsible stewardship is more important than ever.
Safari West invites its supporters and the public to share in this moment—one that reflects not only the challenges of wildlife care, but the hope that comes with it.
Further updates on the calf’s progress will be shared as he continues to grow under the care of the Safari West team.
