Junior Keeper Program

Junior Keeper Program: Inspiring Tomorrow’s Conservation Leaders

A developmental program offering meaningful conservation, STEM, and leadership experiences for motivated teens.

The Junior Keeper Program is a ten-month, immersive experience that introduces teens ages 12–16 to conservation science, wildlife care, and STEM career pathways. Built intentionally as a long-term, developmentally aligned program, it blends experiential learning with mentorship to help young people grow into confident, capable environmental stewards.

Throughout the program, Junior Keepers work directly with exotic mammals, birds, and reptiles while learning core concepts in animal behavior, biology, ecology, and conservation. They also strengthen essential skills—including communication, collaboration, and critical thinking—through enrichment projects and public-facing conservation events. Many alumni later pursue careers in zoology, veterinary science, environmental studies, and other STEM professions, making this program a meaningful entry point into the conservation workforce pipeline.

Who can join?

The Junior Keeper Program welcomes motivated teens ages 12–16 who are ready for a meaningful, long-term commitment to learning, teamwork, and personal growth. Participants should be curious about wildlife, enthusiastic about science, and willing to engage in hands-on work alongside professional animal care staff.

Over its ten-month cycle, the program nurtures confidence, responsibility, and scientific literacy. Many Junior Keeper alumni go on to pursue advanced studies and careers in zoology, veterinary medicine, wildlife conservation, environmental education, or other STEM-related fields—creating a growing pipeline of young conservation leaders.
